Kimball, Nebraska

  • Kimball is a small town of about 2,500 people.
  • It is located in the very corner of the panhandle of Nebraska.
  • Fields as far as the eye can see over vast rolling hills.

  • Kimball is in the middle of nowhere and centrallly located all at once.
  • It is the highest point in Nebraska (almost a mile high).
  • Kimball is also at the intersect of two major roads (I-80 and Hwy 71). So, I spent alot of time traveling to other cities. Road trips were no big deal growing up.

Growing up I felt in the middle of nowhere. I found there to be only three colors: brown, yellow, and tan. I also felt trapped and like I was so limited there.

Looking back, I still feel that way when I'm there too long. But, now it is a place of sanctuary and retreat when life seems to get to complicated. It is like hitting the refresh button when I go home. There is beauty in the panhandle, when I thought it lacked so much. The sunsets are amazing. They surround you and the colors can be so vivid. I can definitely appreciate and feel a sense of pride for my roots.
